If you've ever searched for a Marriott hotel and thought the nightly rate looked too high, MMP — also known as the Explore Rate — is one worth knowing about. It's a special discounted rate available to eligible Marriott associates and their immediate family, and depending on the hotel and dates, it can turn up some of the lowest prices you'll find at Marriott properties.

02What Can an MMP Rate Actually Look Like?

Let's say you're planning a four-night Marriott stay. The regular rate is $420 per night, and you find an MMP rate for the same hotel and dates at $190 per night.

Of course, this is just an example — MMP rates aren't fixed, and the real discount depends on the property, dates, and availability. You won't necessarily find a huge discount every time you search, but when a good MMP rate does show up — especially at a pricier hotel or for a longer stay — the difference can be substantial. That's why MMP can be particularly useful if you stay with Marriott several times a year.

03How Does Marriott MMP Work in 2026?

One of the biggest changes to Marriott Explore is the move toward digital verification. Marriott's newer Explore experience allows eligible associates to verify eligibility digitally — once verified, Explore rates can be accessed through Marriott's booking system, and a digital badge in the Marriott Bonvoy app confirms eligibility.

Once you have access, searching for a hotel works much like a normal Marriott search — if an MMP rate is available for your hotel and dates, you'll see the discounted rate at booking. Marriott covers the updated Explore experience in more detail in its own guide.

The key word here is availability. MMP isn't a blanket 60% discount on every Marriott hotel — rates vary from property to property and from one date to another. You might find an excellent MMP rate for one weekend and no MMP availability at the same hotel a few weeks later.

04Is MMP the Same as MMF?

No. MMP and MMF are both part of Marriott's Explore program, but they're not the same rate. MMP generally offers deeper discounts, while MMF is Marriott's Friends & Family rate with different eligibility rules. There's also MMA, another Explore Rate option.
